Rob – Amazing job with the demo! I loved playing this game in the early 90s and you’ve done a wonderful job replicating it. The ability to cast spells was especially well done – I’ve played a few other computer game versions of HeroQuest that have failed miserably at simulating this aspect of the game. Great job and thank you for doing this. I can’t wait to play the full-blown version in a couple of months. Merry Christmas.
Ryan,
Thanks for trying it out! This has taken a LONG time, but it feels good to finally be getting it polished up.
Progress on the rest of the game is going well, still aiming for a few months from now until a full (beta) version.
Spread the word!
It´s a great idea and a fantastic DEMO!! I don’t know how can I help you and how can I can thank you for this present. I’ll tell it to all my friends!!!
2 ideas: Is there one way to move the characters more quickly on the table?
And have you thought about including more characters?
If you need someone to work on photoshop, perhaps I’ll be able to help you…
Rastrapiés,
You can use W,A,S,D or up, down, left, right arrow keys if you don’t want to click around. If they don’t respond, just click somewhere on the tiles and then the keys should work (Java’s focus system is something I’m still trying to master).
As far as more characters go, I’m staying true to the original core game. If, someday, I add the quest packs that expanded the game, I will stay true to those – and some allowed mercenaries, I believe.
I’m all set on graphics for now, trying to go solo on this, but thanks for the offer!
Glad to hear you like it, and yes by all means spread the word!
Hi
I just got this game downloaded and I love it and I will be passing it along to some friends and family who might be interested in it.
It is a blast and I was wondering if you have any plans on doing the expansions ?
We really hope so.
I would also like to ask if you know of any pdf’s of Space hulk or Space Crusade or any good “Free” computer games like this one.
Thanx again for all your hard work to a true Classic game.
Chris Sherman
Hi
I just found a major problem with this program. In quest #8 I get to the room with the Chaos Warloc and clear most of the room. However when the Warloc casts Firestorm the gam freezes and says it is still Zargons turn.I do not actually enter the room instead my party is outside the door killing the monsters in the Doorway with long swords and almost clear the room.
When the Warloc cast the spell he and his minions are the only creatures in the room and It almost looks like the warloc is commiting Suicide as we are unafected by the spell as we are outside the room.
Also is there a way to save games in progress?
Thanx again,
Chris Sherman
Chris,
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. FireStorm has been particularly hard to test. I think I may know what is happening, but who knows? I’ll take a look.
In the future, if you could, please report all bugs at http://heroquestjava.wordpress.com/report-a-bug/
As for saving games in progress (as in the state of the board), no plans for that just yet until I can come up with a small file size in the end.
Thanks for playing!
Hi
Very good.
Did anyone else run into the same problem?
I hope to try it again when the bug has been squashed.
Have you given any thought about letting the player pick any quest as a starting or continuing point?
Thanx again and Have fun,
Chris Sherman
Chris – the bug HAS been squashed, just completing one other bug fix. Look for the new version in a day or two at http://heroquestjava.wordpress.com/
Concerning allowing the player to pick any quest as a continuing point: Just to make sure, you do know about the save/load feature already present in the game, correct? When you load a saved game, you start the next immediate quest after the one you finished last. I currently have no plans to have players skip quests once a campaign has been started.
Allowing the player to pick any quest as a starting point? Well, my future plans include a version 2 where:
- you can pick campaigns to play
- quest will be played in the order defined by the campaign
- campaigns may have prerequisite campaigns that must be completed first
- players can create their own campaigns
Bear in mind, version 2 will be a long way away, I’m about to become a daddy in 3 months! Not much free time after that! =)
